First Community is delighted that Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, confirmed on 27 June 2018 that the NHS 2018 three year pay deal has been extended to organisations like First Community which provides NHS health services.
The confirmation follows a campaign from First Community, Social Enterprise UK, key healthcare unions and other organisations likely to be affected. The campaign raised awareness of the anomaly that organisations such as First Community, which employs people on NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions, were not included in the original NHS pay deal.
Sarah Billiald, First Community CEO, said:
‘I am relieved to hear the 2018 NHS pay deal has been clarified. It means all NHS employees on Agenda for Change terms and conditions will be treated equally and fairly.
'It has been unsettling for colleagues across First Community, many of whom have worked within the NHS for decades. We have a highly engaged workforce (one of the highest in England as measured by the 2017 NHS staff survey) who provide health and care services of the highest quality. I pay tribute to their resilience over the past few weeks during this time of uncertainty and I would like to thank my colleagues within First Community and outside who have campaigned to raise awareness of this issue. Thank you too to our local MPs who supported our campaign.'
