First Community Health and Care’s Covid-19 Rehabilitation team has been shortlisted for the UK Social Enterprise Team of the Year award.

The Covid-19 Rehabilitation pathway launched in May 2020, to support patients requiring specific treatment post Covid-19 infection including musculoskeletal problems; fatigue; shortness of breath; severe pulmonary / respiratory problems; decrease in mobility, and upper limb weakness.  The multidisciplinary team of health care professionals work together to support patients’ needs, help them to manage ongoing symptoms and recover at home.  Working closely with acute, primary care, mental health, and social prescribing colleagues this short list recognises team working at it’s very best.

Sarah Billiald, First Community Chief Executive, said: It's fantastic our Covid rehabilitation team has been shortlisted for Social Enterprise Team of the Year. They have worked incredibly hard to rapidly establish the Long Covid Pathway (before the term Long Covid even existed!) and tirelessly develop the pathway as the clinical evidence on how best to treat Long Covid evolves.

“They have been at the cutting edge of NHS Covid rehabilitation and have helped to support hundreds of patients in our local community who are struggling after having Covid-19, so this recognition of their efforts is very much deserved."

Commenting on the Awards, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise UK Peter Holbrook said:

“We have had a record number of applications this year, all of which have showcased the strength, dynamism and resilience of the social enterprise community through what’s been an incredibly difficult and uncertain period.

Over the course of the pandemic social enterprises have been going above and beyond the call of duty to support their teams, the individuals, and communities they work with, showing the grit, determination and innovation so inherent to this sector. The Awards are all about celebrating the achievements of the UK’s social enterprise movement, which is showing us that another way of doing business is possible.”
