First Community publishes 2019-20 Quality Account

First Community has today published its Quality Account for 2019-20.

The annual report outlines the quality of the NHS health and care services we provide across east Surrey and West Sussex.

The quality of our services is measured in a number of ways including looking at patient safety, the effectiveness of treatments our patients receive and by evaluating patient feedback about their care and experience.

As well as analysing how we achieved the priorities set last year, the account also sets out the organisation’s future priorities and areas for improvement.

NHS Community services help reduce hospital visits by caring for more patients at home

With the second national lockdown under way, First Community teams are delivering even more specialist care and support to patients in their homes, to help reduce demand on local hospital services.

Since the pandemic began the District Nursing team  have been supporting increased numbers of patients with complex and end-of-life needs in their own homes, to maximise their health and wellbeing whilst lowering the demand for hospital care.

First Community raise over £800 to help struggling families impacted by Covid-19

During September a number of First Community staff took part in the Virtual Run Reigate fundraising event to raise money for their partners Stripey Stork.

The Surrey based charity collect donations of toys, clothes and other essential items for babies and children and, after checking they meet current UK safety standards, rehome them with local families experiencing hardship.

Business as usual for First Community services during second national lockdown

As we prepare to enter a second national lockdown, First Community is reminding the public all services remain open and will continue to operate as usual.

All scheduled appointments, whether face to face or virtual, will go ahead as planned during the new lockdown period.

Patients and visitors to Caterham Dene Minor Injuries Unit are reminded they must wear a face covering and to sanitise their hands on arrival and whilst at the site.
