What is a dietitian?

Registered dietitians are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. Uniquely, dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease to enable you to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

What does the service provide?

The service supports people with evidence based nutritional advice and signposting to local services and support networks. They offer virtual and face-to-face clinic appointments for people with a variety of different conditions, and home visits for people with feeding tubes.

How to refer

If you have a GP in Horsham or Crawley and would like to be referred to a dietitian, please discuss this with your GP or other health care professional.

If you are a health care professional, our referral forms are available on SystmOne or you can contact our administration team at fchc.firstdietitians@nhs.net to request one.

What to expect at your appointment

Your appointment will last approximately 30 minutes
You will be asked about your past medical history and your usual eating patterns and diet
You may be asked if you are happy to be weighed and have your height measured
The dietitian will aim to provide you with tailored advice that is realistic and achievable for you
You may be given written information to support the advice given
