About the Adult Dietitians service in Sussex

Adult dietitians

Our team works across Sussex to assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems.

We provide adult services for inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and home visits. We also provide support for local prisons, care homes, GP practices and the Community Neurological Rehabilitation team.

What is a dietitian?

Registered dietitians are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. Our dietitians work with both healthy people and those that are unwell. Uniquely, dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease to enable you to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.

What does the service provide?

The service provides virtual and face-to-face clinic appointments, in Horsham and Crawley, for patients with a variety of different conditions. The team aims to support patients through evidence based advice and knowledge of local services and support networks.

What to expect at your appointment

Appointments at a clinic:

  • One of the first steps is to ask you about your usual eating patterns and diet
  • Based on the foods listed and your eating habits your dietitian can then advise on a dietary approach suitable for your condition
  • You will generally be provided with relevant literature to support the advice given.

We will aim to provide you with tailored advice that is specific, realistic and achievable.

How long will your appointment be?

Your first appointment will last for 30 - 45 minutes and subsequent appointments (if necessary) will last for approximately 30 minutes.
