New videos launched to support people living with lateral hip pain
People experiencing lateral hip pain can now access a series of new online video resources created by First Community's physiotherapists to help them better understand their condition and support their recovery journey.
Available on the First Community website, the videos provide easy-to-follow guidance on managing lateral hip pain, also known as Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS). The condition commonly causes pain on the outside of the hip and can make everyday activities such as sleeping, walking, climbing stairs and getting in and out of a car uncomfortable.
The new video resources offer patients practical demonstrations of exercises, advice on activity modification and reassurance about managing symptoms effectively at home. Evidence shows that exercise and gradual strengthening of the muscles around the hip can play an important role in recovery from lateral hip pain.
The resources have been developed by First Community's Physiotherapy service to provide patients with accessible, reliable information that they can refer to whenever they need it.
Sarah Barratt, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Team Lead said, "We know that living with lateral hip pain can be frustrating and can have a significant impact on day-to-day activities. These new videos have been created to help people understand their condition, build confidence in managing their symptoms and learn exercises they can complete safely at home. Our aim is to provide patients with trusted advice and practical support, enabling them to take an active role in their recovery."
Lateral hip pain is relatively common for people aged between 40 and 60, although it can affect people of any age. As well as targeted exercises, patients are encouraged to make simple adjustments, such as avoiding prolonged positions that aggravate symptoms, not sitting with crossed legs and avoiding sleeping on the painful side.
By bringing together expert advice, exercise demonstrations and self-management strategies, the new videos aim to make it easier for people to access support when and where they need it.
The videos are now available on the First Community website as part of the hip pain resource hub: https://www.firstcommunityhealthcare.co.uk/hip-pain
