Stay 'Steady on your Feet' this Winter

Do you ever feel off balance, unsteady or fear losing your independence?  Help and support is available on the  'Steady on Your Feet' website

The 'Steady on Your Feet' website and interactive self-assessment tool is part of an NHS national campaign to help reduce falls.

One of the main benefits of this website is an online assessment which generates an individual action plan to reduce the risk of falls. The assessment can be completed by the individual at risk of a fall or anyone they wish to help them (family, friend, career etc).

The website provides a range of advice, guidance, videos and online resources for anyone worried about falling. The site provides users with the confidence to maintain their mobility and reduce the risk of falls.  There is information on managing hazards in the home, diet tips, exercises, support groups and  partner organisations  who can help support.

The tool is highly recommended by health professionals to help people maintain their mobility and reduce the risk of falls in their day-to-day activities.

Falls can have a huge impact on a person's independence and confidence, but many people don't realise how many small changes can help reduce their risk, says Janet Clark, Service Manager for Neighbourhoods and Long Term Conditions at First Community.

The Steady On Your Feet website makes it easier than ever to take that first step, whether it's a self-assessment, some gentle home exercises, or getting support to make your home safer.

The website has already attracted more than 1,700 visitors, with over 200 people across the east Surrey area using the online self-assessment tool. According to website feedback, 70% of users are more aware of fall risks, and 67% report no further falls after completing their plan.

The website is free to use and can be completed on your own or with support from a friend, carer or health professional. It's also designed to work well on phones, tablets and computers.
